UFC 145 Results: What’s Next for Michael McDonald?

On a night featuring victories for Rory MacDonald and Michael McDonald, the similarly named up-and-coming prospects have undoubtedly proven that they are more than just hype at UFC 145 in Atlanta.

Michael McDonald needed less than one round to send Miguel Torres into a state of unconsciousness. In consecutive bouts, McDonald has scored a major knockout from punches and will likely win KO of the Night for the second time.

Many considered this bout with Torres to be the step up McDonald needed in order to show us exactly where he belongs in the division. he passed the test with flying colors and has established himself as an elite bantamweight fighter at the young age of 21.

The first reaction after this contest is that McDonald needs another top-five bantamweight. With Ivan Menjivar squaring off against Renan Barao and Urijah Faber meeting champion Dominick Cruz this summer, there aren’t a lot of quality options at this time. Brian Bowles, Scott Jorgensen and Brad Pickett must be the highest ranked options at this time.
