Hauppauge, NY (PRWEB) December 10, 2011
SmartSource Computer & Audio Visual Rentals (Hauppauge, NY), one of the nation’s leading providers of computer, audio visual (AV) and trade show technology rentals and services, continued its tradition of being the official computer and audio visual equipment resource for the ING new York City Marathon. for this year’s event on November 6th, 201l, which had an estimated 47,000 entrants and 2.5 million in-person spectators (315 million worldwide television viewers), SmartSource again provided all of the information technology (IT), audio visual equipment and related support services used along the 26.2-mile course which started on the Verrazano bridge, ran through all five new York City boroughs, crossed five bridges, and finished in the iconic Central Park in Manhattan. Additionally, SmartSource provided the entire IT infrastructure, video walls and digital signage at the Javits Center for pre-race activities, which included a three-day Health & Fitness Expo where the many thousands of entrants came to pick up their race numbers and informational packets.
SmartSource President and CEO Mike McClernon, who was on-site on race day was notably proud of the company’s significant role in what is widely recognized as the world’s premier road race, an event of the new York Road Runners. “It was a beautifully clear day, and the sound at the starting line, the audio infrastructure, the starting line music, and starting Howitzer amplification and delays all went great. we had about 20 stages set up along the route, entertaining hundreds of thousands of spectators along the race course, and video walls and IT equipment set up to support the marathon infrastructure and various runner events. Just like the runners, being successful in our role demanded a great deal of preparation and years of experience.â€
SmartSource’s preparation began months prior to the actual event. It consisted of numerous, ongoing meetings with officials, other vendors, venue representatives and technicians to assure that the plan on paper would be flawlessly executed.
The 2011 ING new York City Marathon was SmartSource’s 13th consecutive year as the event’s technology resource. to assure that all of the event’s computer, sound, video, lighting and staging equipment and logistical needs were effectively met, SmartSource assembled a team of 75 members. together, they applied a vast array of equipment which included laptops, copiers, large flat screens, kiosks and large monitors for the runners to register for messages. Like last year, social media and Twitter kept information flowing. SmartSource applied miles of cable and installed extensive staging equipment encompassing multiple sound stages, custom-built entertainment stages with sound systems for live music along the marathon route and a complex array of sound systems, hydraulic stages, monitor rigs and backlines.
To accommodate a network television broadcast feed, SmartSource provided sound systems to large LED screens situated in key locations which included the Verrazano Toll Plaza where runners were transported by buses for the start of the race on the Verrazano Bridge. the company also rigged 1,000 feet of sound up the Verrazano on the day preceding the race and built out a large sound system in the bridge’s toll plaza on the morning of the race. Additionally, a microphone set-up was provided for the presenters, anthem singers and the Howitzer Cannon – the starting gun – for the marathon’s three wave starts.
There were a total of 13 custom-built sound stages for bands providing entertainment along the race course in Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Harlem and Central Park, as well as a covered hydraulic stage with lighting and Meyer Sound system at the finish line.
Among the SmartSource staff members who played a lead role in the company’s services for the ING new York Marathon were: Scott Jackson, Bruce Cuiskelly, Mil Samardzija, Rob Fuller, Ken Edwards and members of the company’s new York and new Jersey Operations staff.
From all accounts SmartSource did execute flawlessly on its computer and audio visual services for the ING new York City Marathon. the company has been receiving kudos on its services. among those services which received extra compliments were SmartSource’s providing streaming video, capturing the “Daily Cool Down†footage, and supporting the live shows production needs.
Perhaps Corey Witmer of the new York Road Runners organization said it best. “From all accounts, we hit a home run.â€
