Known as the Journey Into Imagination pavilion until 1999, this pavilion (found in the Future World area at the Epcot theme park) consists of a few very popular attractions and some shopping options. The pavilion itself is mostly housed inside of stunning glass pyramids, and one of the features outside of the pyramids are “jumping” fountains. however, the attractive features of the Imagination! pavilion are only the beginning of what guests can enjoy at this Epcot hot spot. Venture inside of the glass pyramids to find interactive attractions, unique 3D films, and more. Shoppers will love the chance to take home a piece of their visit to the pavilion, and they can do so with things like Imagination Institute photo-ID cards. The pavilion used to house such popular attractions and rides as Magic Journeys, Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, Journey Into Your Imagination, the original version of ImageWorks, Makin’ Memories, and more. Since its refurbishment in 1999, several changes have taken place. ImageWorks was given an upgrade, most of the previously mentioned attractions were removed, and Journey into Imagination with Figment was added.
Two of the major, and most popular, changes to the current Imagination! pavilion include the reinstatement of Captain EO after Michael Jackson’s death, and Journey into Imagination with Figment. The original 3D film/attraction was very popular, but it was closed in 1996 after its successful run at the pavilion. however, in memory of Mr. Jackson, Captain EO was remastered and rereleased in 2010, and guests can now enjoy this Epcot classic once again. Journey into Imagination with Figment is designed with children in mind, and allows kids to enjoy a little insight into the five senses – and to have a little bit of fun when popular, purple Disney dragon Figment shows up and makes a mess of the whole thing!
ImageWorks is meant for all ages, and it involves a lot of interactive play. Guests can create music by moving their body, can conduct an orchestra, play more with Figment the dragon, and even take pictures of themselves at Digital Imaging, which has the world’s biggest digital camera. (For those with visual difficulties, Handheld Captioning is available. The attraction is also wheelchair accessible, and translation devices can be rented at Guest Relations.) Please keep in mind that children seven years old or younger must be accompanied and supervised by someone fourteen years or older at all times.
