NIAGARA FALLS — Allegiant Airlines, one of two operating carriers at the Niagara Falls International Airport, is once again expanding   its services locally. Beginning July 1, the low-cost carrier will offer service to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, joining   Tampa Bay and Orlando as destinations offered from Niagara Falls. “We’re pleased to offer another affordable and convenient way for Niagara Falls and Southern Ontario residents to get away   to Florida,” Allegiant Travel co. President Andrew C. Levy said in a press release. “We are confident the community will appreciate   the value of flying nonstop to Fort Lauderdale and the great deals we offer on vacation packages.” Allegiant’s decision to expand its services had little to do with the airport’s largest carrier, Direct Air, filing for Chapter   11 bankruptcy protection last month, Hansen said. But further expanding locally due to Direct Air’s absence isn’t completely out of the question as Allegiant continually examines   its opportunities. “this is the kind of growth we hope to continue,” Keith Hansen, director of airports for Allegiant, said Thursday. the nonstop offerings will run twice a week with service offered Sundays and Thursdays. the planes will leave Florida at 4:10   p.m. and arrive at 7:15 p.m. the outgoing flight will leave at 7:55 p.m. and arrive in Fort Lauderdale at 10:55 p.m. both   days. A special, introductory fare is available at $94.99 one way, but is only available before April 19 for flights taken by Nov.   13. Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority Acting Chairman Henry Sloma said he can personally attest to the quality of Allegiant’s   offerings, having flown the carrier to Orlando recently. Congresswoman Kathy Hochul, D-26th District, said she sees Allegiant’s expansion as a catalyst to the local economy. “Allegiant’s expanded service is welcomed news for all Western New Yorkers looking for direct and affordable flights to Fort   Lauderdale,” she said. “this new investment will allow more travelers to pass through (the area) each year, provide a boost   to our local economy and create more good-paying jobs.” Passengers can book their flights online at allegiant.com or by calling 702-505-8888.
